James Dobson Promotes Child Abuse and Attacks Families

The Real Danger to Your Family Exposed!

Dr. James Dobson and Jim Daly:

As a progressive Christian and concerned advocate for the family, I feel it is my duty to write to you concerning Focus on the Family. In a time when the family is under attack from endlessly oppressing voices, it is important to take a stand and oppose those that pose a threat to the human family. With that being said, it is imperative that I write this letter expressing my extreme displeasure regarding Focus on the Family's attack on the family.

Christians are divided in our culture, and much of this division comes from two opposing voices for Christianity: the progressive camp and the fundamentalist camp. While the progressive camp has worked tirelessly to promote a Christianity of love and action, the fundamentalist camp has worked equally as hard to maintain the traditions and theological perspectives of institutional Christianity. While all people should possess the freedom to choose their positions on any number of matters, Focus on the Family has abused its power by wantonly attacking the very unit it dishonestly claims to be its "focus."

"Protecting the family" means little more than one thing to the fundamentalist right and Focus on the Family, and that is "stop the homosexuals and their perversion." Focus opposes same-sex marriage and same-sex adoption while championing the nuclear family. In their rejection of same-sex couples adopting children, they have effectively sent the message that children are better off living in substandard conditions as orphans than living with a family with which Focus disagrees. This is shameless and repulsive, and it is about time that American families take a stand for their children, the very ones Focus rejects when political motivations are compromised.
