Are you worried about the extremely high costs of different software programs that you use? Or is there some software that you need or want but can't afford it? Thankfully, there are many free software alternatives that can save you quite a bit. So say good bye to the the high costing services and programs and switch to the free software.

  1. Mozilla Firefox 2.0 and Thunderbird:

Firefox 2.0 is the newer version of Firefox and is even better than before. Firefox is a web browser that supports tabbed browsing and many other extensions. Other than being completely free software, Firefox 2.0 is also much better than the standard Internet Explorer. It doesn't have near as many security issues and is also much faster than IE. Not bad for a free software, eh?

Thunderbird is an e-mail client and also falls in the category of free software. It is the replacement for Outlook Express. While it's hard to state which one is better overall, Thunderbird definitely has the upper hand in terms of the price!(And the logo is much better too!)

  2. Open Office Suite – For those who do not wish to pay Microsoft another couple hundred dollars, Open Office is a great software that is the perfect replacement for MS Office. Developed by Sun Microsystems, Open Office does everything that MS Office does, and more. Though it must be said that I found MS Office's dictionary and some other features better, Open Office is not far behind, and has some other features, such as automatic word completion that make this free software well worth it. Open Office has six programs in it – Base, Calc, Draw, Math, Impress and Writer. Together all of these offer great free software alternatives to MS Office's Word, Excel, Power point and such.
