Easy Homemade Christmas Pillar Candle Gifts

This simple Christmas inspired pillar candle is a great homemade gift the kids can make for family member, coaches, and even teachers. You use simple pre made pillar candle and let the kids decorate them to cerate a fun and affordable pillar candle perfect for Christmas.

You can buy super cheap pillar candles at almost any arts and craft store. I find pillar candles for as little as $1 and as much as $4 at Michaels Arts and Crafts store all the time. You can buy the pillar candles in vanilla, unscented, cinnamon, and even an ever green smell. All of these pillar candle scents would be perfect for this simple and easy home made Christmas gift.

To Make a Hand Decorated Christmas Pillar Candle You will need:

Tooth picks or pencil
Permanent maker
Your pillar candles
Small Artist paint brushes
Acrylic paints
Rubbing Alcohol
Cue Tips
Newspaper

Go ahead and cover your work surface with newspaper. This will make clean up easier and less time consuming.

Now, the first step is to have the kid’s trace a Christmas design or pattern into the side of their pillar candle with the tooth pick or pencil point. They can use Christmas cookie cutter to draw out simple holiday shapes on paper, then cut them out a hold them to the pillar candle. Now all they have to do it trace the shape onto the pillar candle. They could also use cut out some chrismas coloring books or even old Christmas cards.

Tip: The kids are trying to create a groove for paint to rest in on the pillar candle. They can slowly work over the Christmas design a few times to create a good etching. If they press to hard with toothpick, then they may slip a put a separate scratch on the pillar candle.

Now, have the kids use the paint brush to add some acrylic paint to the pillar candle. They need to brush paint into the Holiday design grooves they traced into the side of the candle.

If you find your paint is too think you can use water to thin down acrylic paint.
