Immigrants Son Fights to Keep His Mother in the US!

Saul Arellano, a US citizen, showed up at the Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies to try and prevent his mother from being deported from the US back to Mexico. His mother, Elvira Arellano, is an illegal immigrant who is currently being housed in a Chicago church. The boys persistence paid off as the Mexican Congress called on the Bush Administration to postpone the deportation of Elvira and any other illegal immigrant with children who are US citizens. If President Bush does agree, then this will benefit almost 5 million children who were born in the US and have parents under the risk of deportation. There is an immigration rights group in Chicago who is using this case to send a message to the US congress on the issue of immigration.

This is not the first time a case has been brought up to have Elvira Arellano deported. She illegally came to the US in 1997, but shortly after she was deported. Not long after Elvira was deported she illegally came back into the US, and has been here as an illegal immigrant ever since. She was arrested at O’Hare International Airport for working under a false social security number and was forced to appear at the Chicago immigration office. She has since been facing deportation, but is looking to get the Mexican Government on her side with the help of her 7 year old son.
