Every other Sunday;
After I have brewed;
My afternoon tea;
My telephone would ring;
And I would hear a cheerful "Hi!"
It would be my sister, Sue;
Calling to check up on me;
She would start with a "How are you?"
And then we would touch base;
Sharing each others lives;
Giggling like we did as young girls;
We talked about many things;
Work, family, pets, and men;
She was always there for me;
I could tell her things;
That I could never share;
With anybody else;
She was so open and honest;
I couldn't help but be the same;
Our conversations were often cut short;
By the beeping sound of a low battery;
It seemed like she always forgot;
To charge up her phone;
But that didn't matter to me;
Because she always called back;
It has been ten months;
I still clearly remember her voice;
And it tears me up inside;
Knowing that I will never hear it again;
Today is Sunday;
The phone does not ring anymore;
I have turned it off;
I don't take calls on Sundays;
Not anymore;

Sunday Afternoon Call

I often write about my sister Sue because I still find it very hard to talk about her.

Very nice poem :) I think that talking about her would help ease the pain.

I could really "feel" the pain in this one. It was sad and amazing all at once. Thanks for sharing.

Dear, Dear, Lisa, This touches the Heart of me, There is nothing I can say to make it better, I can only say that as surrogate sisters here on AC, We are always here to listen and read, and to give support and love to you a very special friend of ours. And believe it Sister you will hear Sue's voice again, she is waiting in a very special place with so much to say to you when you get there. Even though you don't always feel her presence, she is with you....she probably influences many of your decisions without you even realizing it. So Sister Lisa, Turn your phone back on on Sundays, you don't know who sue may be talking to you through. I believe in Angels, and I believe they touch us through other people sometimes.......PEACE ~ Nancie P.S. Sorry for the lag in commenting, My Della has been very sick, please read ARTME'S last poem to find out details..... not enough room left here to explain.
