The New Yorker has gotten a lot of flack for their upcoming cover, which features a caricature of Barack Obama by cartoon artist Barry Blitt. While political cartoons are often in good fun and usually depict politicians in a less-than-flattering light, this one may have gone just a little too far.

Barack is pictured in full Muslim attire, fist-bumping his wife Michelle, who is pictured heavily armed with an afro. An American flag burns in the fireplace in the background.

The New Yorker has accomplished exactly what it wanted: the media has created a lot of hype around this issue, which equals more magazine sales (Especially considering the fact that many may consider the cover a collector's item). As offensive and outrageous as the cover is, it's obvious that it's meant to be satire. I mean, only an idiot would believe that Barack Obama is a Muslim extremist (but if all the E-mail forwards I receive are any testament to the rest of the country, there are quite a few of them out there), and the rest of the picture is just as ridiculous and unbelievable. I mean, have we ever seen Michelle with an afro? Has she ever said she thinks that Americans should have the right to bear AK-47s? And just because Obama doesn't think the American flag is a fashion statement doesn't mean he would enjoy burning it. If the cover has any affect on the way someone views the Obama family, well, in the words of Jesse Jackson, they just need their nuts cut off.

But this cartoon cover has angered many Americans, so The New Yorker needs to retaliate. What's the easiest way to go about doing this? Do the same thing to the McCains. John McCain could be portrayed as a corpse in a coffin who is being cremated. Gallons of oil are being poured on his body as his wealthy wife sits beside it, smiling and munching away on her famous chocolate chip cookies (made from a pilfered recipe), counting her money, wearing her designer clothes, and looking like her face is about to be pulled off the back of her head thanks to her super-tight hairstyle.
