I became engaged on June 18, 2005 and it was one of the most romantic and best days of my life...until June 17, 2006, the day of my wedding...on a budget!

I often struggled with the concept of have little money and big wedding dreams. I did probably what most of you ladies did. I went to the nearest bookstore and spent some of my wedding money on "how-to" books. I was so excited because I truly thought these books were going to guide me to having the ultimate "wedding on a budget" like they said they would. Well, their ideas of little money still was too much for me!

I went through the wedding planning blues. I even stopped planning my wedding for a few months. Then one day I realized my wedding was in four months and I had some serious things to pan out if I wanted to still have a wedding.

I am here to give you real-life tips on things that I did to save me a ton of money and still have the wedding of your dreams.

Tip 1: BUDGET YOUR TIME!
I had one year almost to the date to plan my wedding and I did not utilize the entire year. I went through a time for about 3 months where I absolutely refused to even think about the wedding. Well, that was a big mistake. Budgeting your time will keep you from turning into a bridezilla. I did just that; I turned into a bridezilla a week before the wedding because there were a bunch of "little" things that needed to be done that could have been done long before now.

Tip 2: MAKE OUT AN ITEMIZED LIST OF ALL YOUR NEEDS AND WANTS!
The list is essential and you must recognize what is a NEED and a WANT! Knowing the difference can save you hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars.

Takeaways
  • Know your plan and how to execute it.
  • Be wise in your decision making.
  • Always look at the bigger picture.
