This past Sunday our priest gave a splendid Homily based on the 'Parable of the Sower', which is Matthew 13:1-9. This parable describes how a farmer was sowing his seeds and some seeds fell on rocky places, grew, but withered because they could not develop any roots. Other seeds fell among thorns, which also grew, only to be choked out by the weeds. Yet some seeds fell on good soil and a bountiful crop sprang up. Our priest went on to talk about how we should 'bloom where we are planted', and as his Homily went on I realized how these five words related to every aspect of not only mine, but everyone's life.

Bloom Where You Are Planted: Spiritually

In order for spirituality to bloom in a person, they must enrich it with the knowledge of God and his teachings. This is done through reading the Bible, prayer, sacrifice, acts of kindness and selflessness, and so on. If someone has their own spiritual path that does not include God, they still can perform meditations, sacrifices, acts of kindness and selflessness in order for their spirituality to bloom.

Bloom Where You Are Planted: Emotionally

Today, the economy alone can put great stress on a person's emotions, sending them into depression or anger. I learned a long time ago that you cannot change the world, but you can change how you react to the events that happen in your life. This may sound strange, but embrace your depression or anger. That is right, embrace it, evaluate it, deal with, and then move on. Take the energy used for depression and anger, and channel it into a plan to help you deal with the troubling issues that have turned you emotions into turmoil. If need be, seek professional advice on how to handle your budget, and/or your emotions.

I came in from watering my garden to see this and the analogy really resonated even more. In my case, I saw that some plants were resilient and able to work around challenges (lack of sun, too much shade) and still grew well, surprisingly. Then I saw your article, another reminder. Thanks!
