Choose an area in your home to temporarily set up as your haircut station. Opt for a linoleum or tile floor, and put a garbage can nearby to deposit the hair.

If you have a bar stool, use it. Not only will the height of the stool save on your back, it will encourage your boy to sit still during his haircut. If you don't have a bar stool, a swivel chair or straight back kitchen chair will work too.

Choose which length attachment guide you want to use for the boy's haircut. Keep in mind, the higher the number, the longer the hair will be. When in doubt, opt for a longer length. You can always go back over your boy's hair with a shorter attachment guide if the haircut is too long.

Start with the detail work. Buzz the front and around his ears first. Shave against the grain when giving a boy haircut, moving the electric razor in the opposite direction from how the hair grows.

Use short strokes and go slowly when giving boy haircuts. The faster you go, the more it will hurt, the more your boy will squirm, and the longer it will take.
