Bears Sign RB Kevin Jones

2
The Chicago Bears have signed former Lions RB Kevin Jones. "I'm ecstatic," Jones said on his way to O'Hare from Halas Hall. "I know the situation. I know the Bears' rich history of winning. Looking at the Bears, I know they're a tough, running team. I can't wait to be a part of it." The "situation" that Jones is aware of is the Bears current situation at running back. After former first round pick running back Cedric Benson was released from the team, there became an opening at running back. The Bears current starting running back would most likely be Matt Forte. Forte was drafted in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft to help compliment Benson. After Benson's release it put the Bears in a whole new situation with no certanties.

Kevin Jones brings a lot of talent and a veteran presence to a shaky at best offense. If Jones can stay healthy (which he hasn't been able to do so far in his career), he should be able to contribute heavily to the Bears running game. Expect a running back by committee approach for the Bears in 2008. The Bears will use Matt Forte, Adrian Peterson, and Kevin Jones in different situations throughout the season. This was a very good pickup for the Bears. The details of the deal have not yet been released.
