A career in medicine is one of the most respectable professions in our nation. Many students pursue a career in medicine through their passion in helping people and making their lives better-not to mention a huge payload that awaits them at the end of each month. In addition, due to the babyboomers, there will be a large shortage of physicians across the nation as many of them will be retiring; therefore future physicians will not have to worry about the lack of job opportunities. Prestige, wealth, job-security, and satisfaction of helping people are factors that have driven a pool of applicants to each medical school every year. In other words, getting into a medical school is extremely competitive. As a pre-med student, I have gone through many experiences and learned many things that I wish I knew when I first started out, because with them I would have increased my chances in getting into a medical school by many foldsMedical schools mainly look for the following in their applicants:
1) Strong GPA
2) Strong MCAT scores
3) Strong Letters of Recommendation
4) Experience in the medical field
5) Passion in healthcare
6) Leadership
