Enjoy rolling scenery, delicate flavors and more on these winery tours in upstate New York. Many of the wineries and vineyards in upstate New York are small, and they do not all offer guided wine tours. A number of these wineries in upstate New York offer small, intimate tasting sessions. Group tours may be available at some of the larger wineries.

Tips on Winery Tours and Visiting Wineries in Upstate New York

The best way to enjoy these wineries in upstate New York is to explore them on your own, at your own pace.

Many of these upstate New York wineries will ship you bottles of wine. When taking multiple wine tours in upstate New York and going on numerous tastings, you may find yourself wanting to purchase a lot of wine. If you are staying in the area for a while, do not buy cases of the first wine you taste.

Visit three to five wineries in the area before you buy multiple bottles of any one wine. The wine prices at the wineries in upstate New York are reasonable.

Plan to stop at one of the wineries in upstate New York that also serves lunch.

Cayuga Wine Trail

My favorite winery tours in upstate New York are along the Cayuga Wine Trail. The Cayuga Wine Trail is a lovely and quaint wine trail near Cayuga Lake, one of the Finger Lakes.

The Cayuga Wine Trail has more than enough wineries to keep you busy over a week-long vacation. It's best to stop at one of the wineries on the Cayuga Wine Trail and pick up a wine trail map. It works well to visit every other winery on the map, which allows you to enjoy the scenic landscape of upstate New York.

The best bests for winery tours in upstate New York on the Cayuga Wine Trail are at Montezuma Winery and Sheldrake Point.

Sheldrake Point Winery Tour

The Sheldrake Point Vineyard offers pubic walking tours for $2.50. The tours are available seasonally, May 1st through October 31st at noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m on Mondays through Fridays. Weekend tours are at noon and 2 p.m.

The guided tour will bring you through the lush vineyards. Wine tasting follows the winery tour.

I'll need to keep this in mind for the next time I'm upstate. Did you see the one I did about Virginia vineyards?

More good work. (By the way, we have a number of wineries - seems to surprise people - here in Florida.)

I miss wine tastings. Virginia charges for theirs.
