I love this mini gingerbread house project! It is the perfect size to hang on almost any Christmas tree. It is also made out of same simple materials that everyone with kids has around the house. You can make this simple gingerbread house Christmas tree ornament in the kids in about 2 hours or less.

You shouldn’t need to spend more than $20 on material even if you have to start from scratch. You will end up with enough materials to make more than a few mini gingerbread house ornaments too, which makes this a great project for a group of kids.

To Make Mini Gingerbread House Christmas Tree Ornaments You Will Need:

Graham crackers
Vanilla Frosting
Assorted candies for décor
Christmas Ribbon
Zip lock bags or simple pastry bags

Now, one thing got keep in mind. You need to use a thick using that will really dry fast. While you can try using the premade icing in a can, I recommend using this simple recipe for a very thick and sticky icing that has always worked for me!

In a bowl mix together:

1/2 pound confectioner's sugar, 3 tbs. Crisco or white butter, and 1 1/2 - 2 tbs. Milk. Now that is an easy icing and it even tastes great! You can make this simple icing even thicker by simply adding more confectioners’ sugar.

Now, I will always recommend a simple pastry bag in place of a zip loc bag, but you can decide. You can buy great pastry bags at the grocery stores now a days so there I no need to be intimidated.

If you use a pastry bag be sure to by a #2 and a #4 icing tip. If you use a zip loc bag all you need to do is snip a tiny corner off the edge of the bag. I do mean tiny.

Load the icing in to your Ziploc bag or pastry bag. I like to wrap a rubber band around the bag right after the icing, but you don’t have to do that. It does keep al the icing in the corner or tip and keeps out air pockets though!

Place one graham cracker flat on the table; squeeze a little frosting around all edges. You may need an extra pair of hands.
Build you house using the graham crackers. You can use a whole graham cracker or even break it down to the tiny rectangles. The choice is yours.

Takeaways
  • If you use a pastry bag be sure to by a #2 and a #4 icing tip.
  • If you use a zip loc bag all you need to do is snip a tiny corner off the edge of the bag.
  • I do mean tiny.
Did You Know?
Now, to make the triangle shaped wall you can microwave the graham cracker for about 20 seconds. Use a paring knife to cut off the triangle shape.
