Motorcycles are known to be very dangerous, regardless of who is driving them. If your teenage son or daughter has recently been begging you about getting a motorcycle, you may not think that this is the best idea. Here are some of the different factors that you should take into consideration before allowing, or not allowing, your teen to have a motorcycle. Is Your Teen Responsible Enough For a Motorcycle?
The first and foremost thing that you should consider before allowing your teen to drive a motorcycle is whether he or she is responsible enough. Not only does your child need to be mature enough to understand the importance of wearing a helmet, but he or she also needs to know that it is necessary to drive carefully when riding a motorcycle. If you do not think that your teen is responsible enough to be able to handle doing either of these things, then it is probably best to avoid allowing your child to drive a motorcycle.
Why Does Your Teenage Child Want a Motorcycle?
Another one of the things that you will want to consider is why your teenage child wants to own a motorcycle. Is it because motorcycles are known to be very gas efficient? If so, this may be a good reason to want to own a bike due to the high and always rising price of gas. Having a passion for motorcycles is another great reason for a teen to want one. A bad reason for your teenage son or daughter to want to own a motorcycle would be if all of their friends own want and they just want to be "cool." It is a good idea to ask your teen why they want to own a motorcycle before making your decision.
Who is Going to Pay For Your Teen's Motorcycle?
This is a question that you would need to ask yourself if your teen wanted a car instead of a bike. Who is going to pay for the motorcycle? A motorcycle is not going to be handed to your teenage son or daughter for free. Are you willing to pay for it? Will your teen get a part-time job or save up enough allowance to pay for it? Who is going to cover the ongoing cost of gas and motorcycle insurance? The cost of owning a motorcycle is one of the most important things that you should think about before deciding to allow your teen to have one.
