Entry 40July 16, 2008
So two weeks have passed since my last entry and there's a lot to report. Simply Lark Press' eBay store is already off to a decent start, despite the fact that the official launch date is still over a fortnight away. Art, jewelry, and clothes are all selling well. I keep doing my best to update the inventory but I'm focusing more of my efforts on creating merchandise for the Richmond 'Zine Festival in October (I registered for a table last week) and the Neo-Indie Arts Festival---the latter of which I'm also advertising and organizing as much as possible before the big day on July 26. I've been looking forward to this event for months so I really hope that it's successful. One of the local newspapers interviewed me about it just two days ago and will release an article about it as possible as tomorrow. I can't wait to read it! My sister wrote a preview of NIAF for Teen Portal, the county's teen website, so I'm eager to see that, too. I also submitted a form for Simply Lark Press to participate in Crafty Bastards, an early fall arts festival coordinated by The Washington City Paper, but selection is highly competitive so I'm not sure if we'll be chosen to set up our own booth.
In other news, I'm finally getting paid for judging Teen Ink submissions! This is excellent news because it means that I have more funds for Simply Lark Press. I have big visions for the distro but in order to achieve those goals, I need capital and the patience to start off slowly. Wish me luck! I've also submitted art to Stand & Voice, a new literary magazine. They've chosen me as an editor so I get to basically do what I do for Teen Ink: read submissions and decide whether or not they make the cut. Unfortunately, I'm not paid for this but I have a feeling that this will be a worthwhile endeavor.
