I have a history buff in my family. Mainly civil war history, but he loves to learn about anything historical. I have bought several history-related gifts over the years. It becomes difficult to find anything unique. After searching the web, I have come up with some new ideas for history buff gifts.

History lovers can't get enough historical magazines. Luckily, there are history magazines to cover every historical era. You will find some at bookstores, but to get a really good selection, do a search online. Amazon sells lots of different history magazines. To get an idea of the variety that are out there, here are a few titles: American History, World War II, Aviation History, Armchair General, Military History, and Civil War Historian. Believe me, whatever type of history they are into, there is a magazine that covers it.

History buffs usually are also book lovers. Reading is normally how they learned about history, so it makes sense. Of course, history books are common. Some recommended books that cover general history are National Geographic Almanac of World History and A Little History of the World. A Little History of the World was written for children in 1935, but it flows like poetry. Historical fiction is also a good gift choice for amateur historians.

A detailed atlas or globe would make a nice gift for a history expert. Globes are available made of semi-precious stones that are beautiful works of art. The stones are hand-cut. 25 different types of semi-precious stones are used. Blue lapis is used for the ocean. Some of the other types of stones used are jasper, mother of pearl, turquoise, jade, onyx, and abalone. The globes come in different prices and sizes. They can be placed on a desk or with a stand on the floor. They would look great anywhere- living room, office, bedroom, or den. I have seen these in many stores and also online. Semi-precious stone globes are functional, educational, and decorative all in one gift.

History books for the history buff are just one type of gift for a history lover. There are history games, personalized history gifts, and historical jewelry, just to name a few other history-themed gifts.
