There are many places that are must sees when you come to Orlando Florida for vacation. They are unique, places that you do not find anywhere else. One of them is the Mennollo Museum of American Folk Art at 900 East Princeton Street, Orlando, Florida 32803 telephone:407.246.4278 Fax: 407.246.4329. Yes, you can visit great museums almost anywhere you go, but how many are devoted to American Folk Art? American Folk Art tells the story of the people who settled the land. It is more than art, it is the history of the common man.

One of the nicest things about the Mennello Museum of American Folk Art is the fact that they keep their exhibits running for a decent amount of time. If someone recommends one to you, there is a good chance it will still be there when you come yourself. For instance, right now they are featuring Carl Cunningham's America. It is at the museum until August 31, 2008, but it is coming back from March 6th to August 2, 2009, so if you miss it this go round, you will have 5 months next year to make up for it. His work is in the same style as that of Grandma Moses, but a bit more on the whimsical side. In his world, flamingos live in New England and New England cottages are built in Florida swamps. It is almost like he was trying to connect two entirely different environments.

The also have an exhibit of one of the greatest American sculptures, Donald DeLue. This exhibit runs from July 1 to Oct 12th 2008. His work is very compelling and riveting, it is hard to take your eyes off of it. Then there is the Treasury of American prints which features work from the early 19th century, when American Art was taking on style all of its own. This one runs from July1 to October 1 2008.

Can't make it for these exhibits? Then try for one if these up coming ones. The Original Silver's Circus & Zoo Works by Sonny King will be at the Mennello Museum of American Folk Art from October 24, 2008 - January 4, 2009. His work shows the everyday American doing everyday things.
