No One Escapes the Satire

Just in time to teach the folks at The New Yorker about how to do true political satire, the folks at JibJab.Com have come out with a new animated video "Time for Some Campaignin," sung to the tune of Bob Dylan's classic "The Times They Are Achangin."

As with truly effective political satire, JibJab's is non partisan in the sense that no one escapes ridicule. Republican, Democrat, everyone gets their turn in the JibJab video. JibJab previously did a number on Bush, John Kerry, and many others during the 2004

 Election

Here is President George W. Bush as a singing cowboy, complete with boots, hat, and oversized guitar. Here is Hillary Clinton, once again the scorned woman, plotting revenge and payback, one more time getting to bash her erring husband upside the head with a frying pan. Here is John McCain as General George Patton, complete with helmet and tank, getting ready to unleash some major hurt on the terrorists the moment he gets in the Oval Office. And finally, here is Barack Obama, tip toeing like Tiny Tim through the tulips through a woodland wonderland, complete with cute animals (Was anyone else reminded of those devil worshiping woodland animals from South Park?), a unicorn, a pretty rainbow, and bright, wonderful trees and flowers.

So much for Barack Obama being too dour to be laughed at. JibJab.com has found the secret.

The folks at JibJab.com have the secret of true satire. It's not that one partisan side or the other is evil and the opposite side good. "Time for Some Campaignin," like all good satire, starts with the premise that those politicians are all pretty absurd and you have to laugh at them, because otherwise the things they do will just make you cry.
