Steven Page Arrested, Barenaked Ladies Lead Singer

July 15, 2008 -- Steven Page, the lead singer of the Barenaked Ladies was arrested for allegedly being the possession of cocaine, according to the National Post. Steven Page, 38, was arrested in Syracuse, New York on Friday, July 11, 2008. Steven Page is scheduled to appear in court on August 26. , 2008. according to the Canadian Press.

Dealing With Cocaine Addiction

While Steven Page has simply been arrested for allegedly being the possession of cocaine, which is a toxic and dangerous drug that can form a stranglehold around addicts. It is not uncommon for someone, even someone famous, to make the small jump from smoking marijuana to snorting cocaine, or smoking it in the form of crack cocaine.

In Steven Page's case, both marijuana and cocaine were found on the scene, where two women were also arrested. Steven Page was arrested on the cocaine charges, not cocaine charges.

As someone who has seen an addict make the small jump from marijuana to cocaine and downward spiral to crack cocaine, I can say that for some addicts the progression is natural. It's unclear whether or not Steven Page is an addict, and his people aren't talking.

I have heard those who smoke only marijuana talk about how harmless it is, and how it does not always lead to harder drug use. That may be true for a few, but repeated use of a drug can create an addiction.

If you suspect that a teen is on the road to addiction, as a parent, you need to intervene as early as possible. The best way to keep a teen or young adult with a potentially addictive personality from going down the dark road of cocaine use is to nip addictive behaviors when they start. A teen whose parents allow him or her to smoke may be setting that teen up for even more dangerous, and illegal addictions later on in life.
