If you are hoping to catch an upclose view of a Florida gator during your visit to Orlando, there are some things you should know before signing up for a cheap airboat ride.

Orlando Airboat Ride Overview

The first thing you need to know when signing up for that cheap Orlando airboat ride is that while airboat captains make every effort to bring you to gator-favored locales, gator sightings are not guaranteed. The second is that gator sightings are more probable at night than during the day, a trip that is not as cheap as the day ride. Finally, opt for a smaller airboat- the larger airboats accommodating approximately 20 passengers do not have the same capability as the smaller 6 person airboats to navigate narrow passages in rivers and swamps, or to traverse hills and dry land.

Airboats are noisy, so expect to wear earphones. And while searching for cheap, don't neglect safety. Make sure that the airboat has life jackets on board. Wearing those life jackets is mandatory for children under 6 but a sound practice for everyone.

Ready to go look for gators?

Wait! Before you go, don't you want to know what else you might see during a cheap Orlando airboat ride?

Some of the exciting bird wildlife you might encounter in Central Florida on the outskirts of Orlando includes majestic bald eagles, sand hill cranes, herons, wild turkey, snail kites and osprey.

Turtles, boar, deer and raccoon sightings are also common amid the cypress forest and marshlands of the typical Orlando airboat ride.

How Cheap Is Cheap?

How much should you expect to pay for a cheap Orlando airboat ride? For a one hour nighttime ride, expect to pay about $45. For an hour long day ride, a typical charge for a cheap airboat ride is $35.

It is possible to obtain discounted tickets for a cheap airboat ride.

Check the airboat operator's website for coupons. Several of the Orlando airboat tours listed here offer online coupons that may save you $1-2 per ticket.

The air boats are such a great time. I went three years ago visiting family in orlando. In addition to the gators we saw and Eagle, and bought some boiled peanuts which were surprisingly delicious!

Nice article although I'm quite content to see mine in zoos.

You know? I have no desire at all to get that close to snappy alligators. Dolphins, yes. Alligators, noooo. Great article though.

We took one of these rides and your info is accurate. The rides are fun, too, especially if you get the right guide to assist and provide local info :) Super write-up!

The boat rides sound like fun, but count me out of alligator watching! I'd rather just see them on TV, rather than up close and personal! Sophie

I kind of miss seeing gators in the road in GA. Beats the ugly armadillos here. :-)

I wanted to do this up in Daytona Beach when we were there overnight, but we wound up at a lighthouse. It was nice, though, cause I published an article in Fate magazine about the haunted Ponce de Leon Lighthouse.

I can vouch for Boggy Creek Airboat Rides! Went with them a few years ago and loved it!
