There's been a shakedown at CSI Las Vegas. Gary Dourdan is leaving CSI, as is William Petersen. William Petersen is the man behind the slightly quirky, totally intelligent Gil Grissom, and a main draw to CSI Las Vegas. William Petersen is part of the original CSI Las Vegas cast, and the heart and soul of the show. Jorja Fox, who has announced her return and departure so many times, that CBS must have a revolving door on her name, will be making "appearances" on the show, according to Entertainment Weekly.

William Petersen is said to be leaving CSI Las Vegas mid-season. Both Jorja Fox and Gary Dourdan will be seen in upcoming episodes.

Gary Dourdan

Gary Dourdan is leaving CSI, where he played the role of a crime scene investigator with a gambling skeleton in his closet. It turns out that Gary Dourdan is leaving CSI, before he was arrested on drug possession charges in April of this year.

Gary Dourdan fans can enjoy his voice work as Crispus Allen Batman: The Gotham Knight, an animated video. Gary Dourdan also appears in the Doorman movie.

The actor Gary Dourdan has also publicly stated that he will not be joining the cast of Celebrity Rehab although it has been rumored. (The Star Online)

Memorable TV Actor Replacements

Can a show go on with the loss of two major players? Some shows have trouble surviving and pleasing the viewing public after one main actor has left.

The Second Carly, General Hospital

On soap operas, lesser characters are sometimes replaced by a new actor. The shows like to include a caption and sometimes a voice over stating, "The role of x will now be played by Y."

When General Hospital replaced the actress who played Carly with a new actress, it was impossible to watch the show. The new Carly did not have that same edge as the original actress who played Carly.

Argh. I will still watch to see how it goes, but the main reason this was my favorite CSI was the terrific ensemble cast, specifically William Peterson. I wasn't crazy about Liev Schreiber's character. Hearing about Gary Dourdan's departure before the season finale aired made the ending of the episode a complete non-event, as well.

I don't watch much TV... maybe too many infomercials, but not a lot of the television shows that come on. CSI and it's spinoffs have been my staples. CSI being my first favorite, it will be quite hard to watch without Grissom and Warrick. Guess that leaves Miami and New York. Lets if my favorite characters start leaving those two.

You would have thought CBS would have fought harder to keep this cast together.

I am huge CSI fan so I am sad to see Peterson go. But to the producers credit, I liked the story lines and choice of actor, Liev Schreiber who filled in for Peterson two seasons back. Mash, one of my favorite TV series of all time handled character transitions well. Time will tell what the creative group at CSI really has to offer.

I guess E.R. survived but I can't imagine this shakeup will fair well. It's one of the few shows I adore -- though missed a lot this last year. I guess I won't bother catching up. :-(

I can't imagine the show without such key actors. I really liked how you compared this to other shows and actors who left them, with the results in those situations :)

Hate it when key actors get replaced.

I watch little to no TV, but I can't help but watch CSI if it comes on... one of my few broadcast vices! Good reporting!
