This is the first time in my life that I've been single and having recently moved I really didn't know anyone except for some family. Having met my best friend online years ago, I trust the concept of online dating - much more than my mother's matches I might add. Although, I must say my experience with eHarmony, my first attempt at online dating, was depressing.

After a laborious psychological and matchmaking test, the _few_ matches I received scared me. One stringy-haired, scrawny guy looked like he was shooting up drugs in the photo and another was with his boy on a porch swing, caption: "At Ma's house after church."Moreover, the matches became even stranger when I included the last book I read,"The Fist of God." It isa fictionalized bookrelated to theGulf War. But the matchmaking gnomes interpreted differently and started sending me profile ofvery outspokenreligious people. So what happened with the 29 key dimension test results? My literary preference says it all.

Finally, a decent online dating match appeared in my inbox. He was a well-off golfer who was confident, nice looking and intelligent. He loved talking about himself though. So much so, that, after a couple of phone calls, he made mama's boy sound appealing.I could have given up on online dating right there, but I assumed I must have failed eHarmony's psychometric testing because I was in a funk. It is probably not a good idea to take these tests after recently breaking up with your soulmate. Not giving up easily, I saw an ad for a new online dating site, Chemistry.com (owned by Match.com) and thought I'd give it a try.

Online Dating FYI: You can actually be rejected at eHarmony and be deemed "undate-able"? Ouch.

Takeaways
  • The personality tests are helpful in selecting a potential date.
  • Date online dating sites to find the right one. Many offer free trials.
  • Online dating is as safe as conventional dating.

Great article - too bad it's the sad truth about online dating. Granted, I know a few who have found spouses online (2 cousins of mine) but I've given up on the whole scene. One day my prince will come. LOL! ~Pam

Aw Donna forget all these dating sites....I tell ya if I was single and not ninety five, I'd be right for you I know I would...Lol. Great article, I think it's great for single people to be able to check each other out, before the first date. Especially in this day and age. Makes sense to me.

One word of advice, if you have gut feelings that say no, go with them. O dod meet my very loved husband on a web site chat room, but I've seen both ends of the spectrum from awful to wonderful. There is always a background check option too, if you are worried someone isn't for real.

Good article. I personally hate online dating sites but I'm on a few. I never use the pay features because I don't trust them. I feel like it's a beauty contest. Being disabled and not being able to work a "real" job, I feel they'll think I'm a joke. Of course, no one ever writes me except foreigners. When I took eharmony's test, they said there's no matches for my personality and they couldn't help me. They give a page of info about your personality too. Great ego boost..NOT!
