American History X: Media Reaction and Societal Impact

American History X is a movie that shows cultural diversity and discusses racial injustices, prejudices and stereotypes. Writer David McKenna tells a story about Derek Vinyard, a young "neo-Nazi" living in Venice Beach, California and the hatred he once had, that he
has passed on to his brother.

Derek, whose father was murdered in a known "crack neighborhood", goes to prison after killing a black man who is trying to steal his car. He gets out of prison only to find that his brother, Danny, is involved in the same group of neo-Nazi's who had once influenced Derek.

In my opinion, American History X showed a wide variety of cultural diversity. It showed a group of young white supremacists, or "Neo-Nazi's." The movie showed a gang of black men who like to play basketball, carry semi-automatic guns, and steal cars. It tells a short history of life in Venice Beach, California before the minorities over ran it; "Venice Beach didn't always look like this. It used to be a good neighborhood. The Boardwalk's always been a dump but when my dad moves us out here Venice was a nice quiet place to grow up. Over the years though it's just gone to hell. The gangs are like a plague they moved west from Inglewood and South Central and basically took over (Danny Vinyard, American History X).
