I personally, I am mad about old cars. I attend the concours delegance annually without fail. Motor shows for new cars on the other hand, interest me to a lesser extent. Old cars are harder to manage mainly because of their age, difficulty in finding genuine parts and lack of mechanics who know sufficient information on how to fix old cars. Cars are generally the second most costly investment after housing; they then should be treated with the at most care.

The first thing that you need to know when it comes to improving your old car is to buy genuine parts. Fake parts will not last for the same period of time as genuine parts. These parts in most cases will spoil your car and their efficiency does not match the original one. Also avoid using parts form other types of cars. Some parts can be custom made for you at local garages the more complex the part the better equipped garage you will need and the more that you pay. The specific car manufacturer can make for you the part that you desire even though they no longer manufacture that car. Custom made parts are not that costly and their tailor made function will be done better. This will also substantially increase the resale value of your car especially for the older models.

The engine which is the car’s heart is the neediest part. The engine should especially have good genuine parts. This is because of the corrosion, dirt and friction that it endures. Buy the correct and the best petrol possible, the higher the octane rating the better the fuel (The octane rating will be shown on the side of the fuel pump the greater the rating the better the fuel). Good fuel will decrease the knocking and increase the timing accuracy of fuel explosion; this will reduce the mechanical damage on the car. Make sure that you check the oil level regularly and buy the best. Note that the most expensive does not mean that it is the best, it should be well rounded.

Takeaways
  • Acknowledge your car, give it a name to personify it.
  • Listen to your car. It may prefer running a few miles below the speed limit so allow it.
  • Hard work and sweat is the price of a piece of history. Nothing can match them.
