The Three Little Pigs - a Remix

Nursery Rhymes with Your Children as the Characters

When my children were younger, I told nursery rhymes with them as the characters. I gave the characters my children’s names and personalities and switched up the story lines to fit the way they might handle the same situations. I could never go on a
road trip without having to tell these stories repeatedly. Luckily for me, I could change it up with each telling. I had forgotten how much fun my children had with these twisted nursery rhymes, but was reminded after reading Elisa Nova’s adorable telling of how a mouse found its way to her apartment in New York City. Her story, Genesis Revisited, used the story of Abraham and Lot to dramatize the journey of this little creature.

It is easy to include your children in nursery rhymes, and they especially enjoy it if you add in one of their favorite friends. For an example, I will use my youngest daughter’s favorite story line. To protect, my children from too much embarrassment, I will change their names in the telling of this story. My fake children’s names will be: Ginger, Lily and Rebecca.

The Three Little Pigs – A Remix

Once upon a time there were three little pigs named Ginger, Lily and Rebecca. They were sisters who squabbled all the time. Finally one day, they had a big fight and decided to move out of the house they shared. Each went off to make her own new home.

Ginger went to the store to see what she could find. The first thing the salesman showed her was a big pile of straw. Ginger immediately said: “No! I’m allergic to straw. It will make me sneeze and make my eyes all puffy.” Ginger couldn’t have the sticks or the logs either because they were dirty. The salesman became quite frustrated when Ginger said that the bricks and stones were too hard. He decided to show her a tent. Ginger said: “Eww. A tent? I can’t live in a tent!” The salesman replied: “Miss Pig, princesses live in tents in the desert.” Ginger perked up and said: “Oh, I want one of those! Give me a princess tent!”
