Jesse Jackson Caught Using the "N Word"

Racial Charged Controversy for Civil Rights Leader

The infamous tape, in which Jesse Jackson was overheard offering to "cut his n#ts off", referring to Barack Obama, continues to cause trouble for the civil rights leader. A newly released part of the tape shows Jesse Jackson saying the "n word."

This portion of the tape, which was apparently leaked to the Internet, was suppressed by Fox TV host Bill O'Reilly because he did not think it advanced the story of Jesse Jackson's obvious ire toward Barack Obama. The revelation of Jesse Jackson using the "n word", which is a racist insult and one of the "words you can't say ever" is causing considerable media comment and two related controversies.

The first controversy is the obvious hypocrisy being exhibited by Jesse Jackson. A number of white celebrities, including radio and TV host Don Imus, reality TV show star Dog the Bounty Hunter, and comedian and Seinfeld TV star Michael Richards have embroiled themselves in scandal by having racially inflammatory things they have said made public, including in the case of Dog and Richards the use of the "n word." Police detective Mark Fuhrman's use of the "n word" led in part to the acquittal of O.J. Simpson on the charge of double murder, which many people think he is guilty of.

In each case, Jesse Jackson has been in the forefront of efforts to not only force these erring to apologize, but to destroy them. It is a bitter sweet irony that Jesse Jackson has been caught saying the "n word" for which he has so vigorously condemned others for doing.

The argument that African Americans have a special license to use the "n word" may not wash, considering recent efforts to condemn its use by anyone. Even the late comedian Richard Pryor, who used the "n word" once liberally in his routines, eventually decided to eschew saying it as it was a "term for our oppression."
