American Girl stories are a unique blend of history (without being too dry and dull) and narrative (without being unrealistic or fanciful). Each girl is depicted as a typical child of the era. All the historical events of the day affect the girls' lives. The stories are woven with allusions to events, people, ideas, issues and culture of the day. In the back of each book is little compendium showing and explaining tools, artifacts, toys, household items that were a part of each girl's world.
