Recently, I was reading the current issue of Woman’s World magazine. I came upon two ways anyone can support our troops overseas and their families here in the homeland. After reading the articles, I had to pass them on to other readers who may not be reading Woman’s World.

Our troops deployed overseas would cherish any kindness sent to them. I feel it shows we support, we care and we wish peace and their safe return home. Sending them a little piece of home may help ease homesickness. Speaking for myself, I know I would be homesick, even for the simple smells and tastes of home.

Something as simple as home baked cookies can bring our military personnel, who risk their lives everyday, a sense of home.

Jeanette Cram runs an organization, Treat The Troops. Jeanette and her volunteers called “crumbs” (like you and I) bakes and distributes cookies for deployed soldiers. They mainly make chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin cookies. For the summer month’s they change to M&M cookies instead of chocolate chip, because they don't melt as fast.

Jeanette, known as the cookie lady, has been running this organization since 1990. She started it for deployed troops in the Gulf War. To date, Jeanette and volunteer have made 167,921 cookies that have gone to our troops who savor every morsel. Out troops just log onto, treatthetroops.org, and make their requests.

Sadly though, Jeanette can not fulfill all the troops’ requests both financially and physically. Your help is desperately needed to help fill the requests. This is such a good cause and hopefully with enough volunteers, NO request will go unfulfilled. You could  get your neighbors or town involved in a bake day or even your family dedicating one day a week to baking for the troops. Every troop member deserves homemade cookies.
