Deciding what to put in your carry on bag for air travel can be a big choice. There are many different airline rules that you must follow for air travel. Trips are a great way to unwind and have fun. Also, some people must use air travel for business trips. How do you know what items to put in your carry on bag for air travel?

Check the Airline Rules

Check the airline rules before you pack your carry on bag. There are often updates by the airline industry that you should be aware of prior to packing for your vacation or business trip. The airline company can often tell you of a website that you can visit to see all the latest rules and regulations for your carry on bag packing.

Liquid, Gel or Aerosol Items

If you are going to carry any liquid items, gel items or aerosol items be certain that they are in a container that is three ounces or smaller. Once in the container, place the items in a zip-loc bag.

Layer Your Bag With Clothing

One way to speed up the process of bag checking is to layer your bag with clothing. On the bottom of the carry on bag place your Ziploc bag of your containers that are three ounces or smaller. Next, pack one thin layer of clothing. The third layer will be your electronic equipment. Then you should pack another layer of clothing. The final layer can be heavier items such as a change of shoes.

You can pack your carry on bag with the items that you need. Separating the sections with clothing will make it easier for the security checkpoint to x-ray your bag and give you clearance.

Valuables

Assume that your luggage that is checked is going to get lost, stolen or accidentally opened. Anything that has value to it should be packed in your carry on bag. This includes items that carry sentimental value and cannot be replaced. Bags are not always lost or stolen but it is a good rule of thumb to follow for your valuables.

I fly at least once a month and it seems there is a new rule every time.

The last time I flew from Dallas to Cancun, I had a sealed brand new mascara taken away from me at the security check. I don't know what rule that violates for carry ons but I would advise packing makeup and face creams in a checked bag :) good information thank you :)

Very good advice. I can't believe what the airlines are doing as far as charging for baggage checking. *****

I read a story recently about how airline attendants are starting to refuse to help put your bag in the overhead compartment because people are packing them so heavily to avoid paying luggage fees. So, be aware that if you pack it, you have to lift it!
