Many women experience horrible menstrual cramps every month. Menstrual cramps can happen before, during or even right after a women has her period. Instead of popping ibuprofen or calling off sick from work every month, try to take up yoga. Yoga can actually help reduce painful menstrual cramps in women. The poses in yoga, especially the ones that open up the hips and improve circulation in the pelvic area, can help alleviate the pain caused by menstruation every month. The breathing techniques and relaxation methods taught with yoga also help you deal with your menstrual cramps in an easier way.

There are many yoga poses that help open up your pelvis area and hips. By opening up those areas, you can help improve the circulation and blood flow into those areas. By improving the circulation, you can help reduce menstrual cramps. Exercising when you have menstrual cramps can seem hard to do, but yoga is a low impact exercise that in the end will actually help you with your menstrual cramps. When you have menstrual cramps, the following poses will help open up your hips and pelvis area to reduce your menstrual cramps: goddess pose, child's pose, half moon pose, triangle pose, and pigeon pose.

Another way that yoga can help reduce menstrual cramps is by relaxing your mind and body. Yoga's main focus is to find a connection between your mind and body and to help you relax and de-stress. The breathing techniques used in yoga help you to relax your whole body. If you are able to relax your whole body and keep your mind clear and off your menstrual cramps, it will help you to reduce the pain. Just by relaxing your mind and letting your mind go clear, you can make the cramping in your uterus die down some. Menstrual cramps are caused by the uterus contraction, as it shed the lining and if you are able to relax your whole body, you can cut down on the contractions that occur during menstruation.
