Is a Scooter in Your Future?
Recently my wife and I were sitting at our favorite ice cream shop in a local community and noticed that a new scooter shop had opened across the street. They had so many different colored scooters, that they had them in front of the store. Scooters have been around for a long time.
However, very recently, they have started getting more attention.
There are both advantages and disadvantages with a scooter. Let's briefly look at them. Advantages. (1) Lower use of gas and energy. (2) Easy storage. (3) Less expenses in maintenance. (4) Better on the family budget. (5) Fun to ride in the open air. (6) Great for recreational cruising. Disadvantages. (1) Dangerous in bad weather. (2) Insurance concerns. (3) Limited on hauling capabilities. (4) Safety concerns (5) Easier theft.
If you live in the southern part of the US, a scooter might be what a person needs for going to work or school. As for dropping off the kids at school, this wouldn't work. The same is true if you have to bring something home from the store or market. You are limited on what you bring home. However, If you use it only for commuting to work, it could save you lots of money.
If you live in the northern part of the United States, you are limited on scooter use because of bad weather. Still their could be some energy savings.
When it comes to safety, there is not much protection. An individual needs to take instructions in scooter safety. Many States offer training when individuals apply for their license. Besides taking a course, they must also pass a rules of the road exam before they are permitted to drive a scooter.
Scooter sales are up and so is the cost of buying one. Still, when you consider the overall cost of car payments, insurance, stickers, maintenance, and fuel, a scooter might be a commuters best bet.
