Starbucks closure list in Georgia: Starbucks announced July 1 that it was closing down 600 "underperforming" stores nationwide. On July 17, Starbucks disclosed a full list of the store closings on their company website, Starbucks.com. California and Florida were the two hardest hit states, receiving 88 and 57 closings respectively. The state of Georgia, where this writer lives, will lose 13 of the world-famous coffee shops (called "coffeehouses"). All but three of the shops are located in the Atlanta metropolitan area.

Closings will begin shortly and will continue into the beginning of 2009, according to the website.

For some, who are addicted to a Starbucks perk-up on their way to work, this can or could be quite problematic. But, if you're like most, you will adjust, which means finding a more out-of-the-way Starbucks to patronize, finding another coffee shop to frequent altogether, purchasing fast-food or convenience store coffee, or brewing your own to take along on your morning commute. Three of the metro-Atlanta shops that are closing are in Gwinnett County (also where this writer resides); two of those are on Pleasant Hill Road, a major connector to miles of malls and businesses that intersects with Interstate 85 just north of Atlanta proper in Duluth.

Any Starbucks fix that this writer (or, more accurately, this writer's wife, who is a Starbucks fanatic) might need can be supplied by the Starbucks on Lawrenceville Highway, which is only a few hundred yards south of Pleasant Hill Road on the eastern side of Interstate 85. It is a mere mile from this writer's doorstep, so inconvenience really does not apply to yours truly. And if that one were to close, there's another Starbucks inside a 24-hour Kroger grocery store in the plaza mall another hundred yards down the street.

As a person who misses 50 cent-a-cup coffee, I can honestly say I wish Starbucks had remained a regional fetish, Lindsay. Damn "Friends" and their coffee shop -- those instigators !! :)

That is soooo not a SBux cup in your picture. ;) As a Washingtonian and avid coffee drinker (and SBux addict), I am saddened that some states will not have Starbucks on every corner and in every grocery store anymore. *Sigh*

There are two within walking distance, one is in a supermarket, so now I can work with my laptop while my wife does the shopping.
