Starbucks closure list in New Hampshire: On July 1, 2008, Starbucks Coffee announced that they were going to be closing 600 of its stores around the nation. The list was released on Friday July 18. According to a press release from the Starbucks media relations department, the closures are slated to begin immediately and will be complete by the middle of the 2009 fiscal year. It's not big news, the coffee giant has made it public knowledge since the beginning of the year that it was feeling hardship due in part to Country's failing economy. According to a letter written to Starbucks partners (employees) and stores, released 1 week after the announcement was made that the coffee giant was closing stores, the closures were necessary to help keep the company growing in the right direction.
Howard Schultz, the companies recently appointed CEO, made the following statement; "With any decision of this magnitude, I want to be sure that our partners, customers and shareholders understand the reasons for the decision and how we will move forward. While the past few months have been difficult for our partners, we have a very clear strategy and we are extremely optimistic about our go-forward plans."
With that being said, out of the 14 stores located in New Hampshire only one will be closing its doors in the not so distant future. Store 14089, located at the Rochester Shoppes at 160 Washington Street, in Rochester was the store that was chosen to close. The store was only recently opened in October 2007.
There has been talk in local blogs that many are not too worried about the one store closing and that there are several different coffee shops in the Rochester area to move on to. There are also 13 more Starbucks Coffee Shops located through out the state. However, with the economy the way it is, most are finding it better to buy ground or whole coffee beans from their local grocery store and brew their own cup of coffee.
