The Beginning

Emerging in the early calm
Dew lingering on grass
Darkness clinging to the horizon
If perfectly still, it can be felt

Having endured the perilous night
Survived countless near misses
Lived to tell of the attacks and attempts
It still remains, now reinforced

No matter what came to oppose
It could not be stopped
No power sufficient to thwart
Nor force strong enough to suppress

Having fought for survival
Treaded water while tired
Squinted and searched assiduously
For any sign of illumination

Now as the sun rises
Daylight chasing away the shadows
It is finally in clear view
Attainable, tangible, within reach

Dark night and weeping ceased
The dawning of a new day
Delivering joyous relief
It is now visible
