Short Description:
The beagle, a smaller breed of dog, would add the perfect addition to any family; with kids or without. The beagle is known for its English foxhound figure and tricolor coat, usually a mixture of: brown, grey, black, tan, and white. Its straight, medium length coat is very easy to groom. A beagle's fur should always lie flat against its skin, and the fur should never have a silky or smooth feel to it.

Average size:
Both male and female average 13 inches in height and about 22-23 inches in length, and their weight, male and female, averages 18-30 pounds.

Temperament:
Beagles are very intelligent dogs that live to please their owner(s). Beagles that are well trained and brought up with love and care will do well with any family. They easily adapt to their new family and soon become the perfect pet. All in all, the beagle is a non-temperamental dog when trained correctly. Although, just as all other dogs, the beagle can be very aggressive if not trained correctly and/or abused.

Care:
Beagles require daily brushing to remove dead fur (this is important to do or else your beagle will have itching problems, problems with smelly fur, and shedding.) To prevent your beagle from receiving painful ear infections, you should clean their ears out regularly with a paper towel or something similar.

The beagle, just as every other pet, should visit a vet for yearly shots and check ups (this is very important!)

Feeding:
Feeding is very easy when it comes to the beagle; whether you feed your new dog wet food or dry food, it should never be difficult to get him/her to eat their food. Beagles are always willing to adapt to new foods. If your beagle is having difficulty eating or just refuses to eat then you should contact your vet immediately, because this could be a sign of illness in your animal.

Average life span:
The beagle will live to be somewhere between 12 or 15 years of age.

Litter Size:
The average size for a beagle's litter would be about 7 or 8 pups; although, depending on your beagle, the litter size could be anywhere from 2 to 14 puppies.
