My Tiny Tot Brigade loves movies almost as much as I do. Some of them have collections nearly as large as mine.

Recently we got into a discussion over the top kid's movies of all time. We had some trouble determining the criteria that we wanted to use to make our decisions. Out of the mouth of a six-year-old came the obvious answer. "It should be the movie we watch over and over and over again."

I don't mind being dumber than a fifth grader. I've seen people with a Ph.D. not able to outdo those kids on TV. However, being bested by a six-year-old was a bit hard to handle. I suddenly feel a whole lot older.

Nonetheless, that is the criteria we used. Each "tot" was allowed to present their top three films. We then compiled those lists into one, eliminating all duplications. Then the kids rated the remaining movies on a scale of one to five, with one being their least favorite and five being their most favorite on the list.

Next, I took those and calculated each film's average score. Once that was accomplished, I eliminated the bottom vote getters from the list. The remaining movies were listed according to the Brigade's ranking.

Here are the top 10 movies as chosen by the Tiny Tot Brigade, along with some of their comments explaining why they were their favorite movies.

#1 - Harry Potter

It's about magic and it has all of these neat creatures. Plus, Harry always wins. (Justin, age seven)

The movies are almost as good as the books. Some movies like that aren't though. (John, age nine)

Harry is cool! (Marshall, age six)

I like watching Harry beat the bad guys. (Hamm, age seven)

I want to go to Hogwarts. (Bree, age six)

#2 - Wizard of Oz

Ok, it's old but I just love the movie. (Jane, age seven)

I love the cowardly lion and the tin man. (Tracy, age seven)

Mom said the movie was made over 50 years ago. But, it's too awesome to be that old. (Hamm, age seven)

I saw a tornado once and it lifted up a house and spun it around just like in the movie. It was scary. But maybe the people in it just got to go to Munchkin Land. (Tina, age seven)

I have a dog just like Toto. (Brandi, age six)

#3 - Star Wars

Are you kidding me? It is the coolest movie ever made. (Brandon, age nine)

Takeaways
  • Harry Potter still reigns supreme.
  • Spiderman was the only superhero to make the cut.
  • The Wizard of Oz continues to capture the hearts of children of every generation.

I had trouble reading, I was laughing so hard at some of the comments. I must be a child at heart; many of their choices were the same as mine!

I have watched all of these movies with my niece and nephew when they were little. I enjoyed every movie and I still watch "The Wizard of Oz" every year. I just love that movie. Shrek is another favorite of mine also. I have seen all 3 shreks and the third one is my favorite. I am a big movie fan and although I mostly watch scary movies, I love kids and family movies also! Great article and great list and the tots did a great job! :)

The Tots wanted me to relay their delight that you all appreciate their work. They truly like that adults find their opinions "important." One of my shyer little girls has really come out of her shell over the last couple of months. A lot of that is due at least in part to your kind words. On behalf of myself and her, I thank you.

Some of these films were fun to watch. But I steer clear of ones that involve spiritism. It's ultimately up to the parents to decide if they think that these are appropriate for their children to watch. Sophie
