The Chinese ways of treating illness is by looking at a disease holistically rather than just the part of the body that is affected. The Chinese looks at illness as a result of mental, spiritual and physical disruption. Illness is a result of the three states affecting each other and illness is caused by different body parts affecting each other rather than just one part if failing. The Chinese look at illness as an imbalance in heat, cold, and Yin and Yang. The next time that you feel stressed out or your loved one dies, notice that these emotions will make you ill. I'm certain that we all have gotten ill from stresses in life. In fact, stress is the number one reason for any onset of illness.
The Chinese often uses herbs as medicine. If you notice, most medicines are made from plants or herbs thus the practice of herbalism is the same as powder pills in America. There are herbal pills too. If we really examine, herbal or western medicine can treat illness effectively. Some herbal medicines can treat illness better because some of the herbal formula are unavailable with western medicine because of law and regulation. Some are ignore by western practice.
The herbalist suggests four things to do to preserve good health: eat and drink in moderation, avoid invasion of cold and wind, spare the mind, and shun anger. This is why yoga and meditation is very good for a quiet and calm body and thus good health. Laughter is good, distress and anger will cause bad health. The herbalists treats the patients illness and also the root of the illness.
