I have been dieting for the past several weeks, and have lost 6 pounds. One of the foods that helps me eat more or less a "normal" meal is my Oroweat Light Whole Wheat Bread. I just made a turkey sandwich with this bread today and it was quite satisfying.

This bread comes in a one pound loaf, and the slices are a bit smaller than my normal whole wheat bread, the slices measure about 4" wide and 3 1/2" tall, so it is probably smaller than what you are used to eating as well. The package comes double wrapped to keep it fresh, and the label reads that this is 100% whole wheat bread, and I always prefer the whole grains, not just when I am dieting, because they are so much healthier for the body. Whole grains actually contain two antioxidants, vitamin E and Selenium, which protect the bodys cells against free radical damage. They are also thought to lower the risks of certain forms of cancer.

I compared the calories in this bread to my other brand, which has 120 calories per slice, and the Oroweat Light only has 40 calories per slice! Out of the 80 calories contained in 2 slices, only 5 of those are from fat! It also is an excellent source of fiber, has no trans fats, and contains no cholesterol. The bread has the nutty taste of whole wheat, but this light variety also contains molasses so it has a very unique taste to it.

I like to make turkey and ham sandwiches with this light bread, and I use only mustard for my condiment, no fattening mayonnaise. Top it off with some iceberg lettuce and it is quite satisfying, and filling too. It also toasts up well if you want to toast a couple slices for breakfast, and there certainly is no guilt about having a few slices when each one only contains 40 calories!

The only disappointment I have with this bread is the texture. It's just not as soft and "fresh" tasting as the other breads that I had been buying before I started my diet. It almost tastes stale, but it's not. The label says that this bread is baked slower and longer for the ultimate in flavor and texture. I wouldn't say that this one meets that claim, because the texture certainly could be better.

I can not STAND Oroweat - all of their breads are bland and tough. Nothing beats Brownberry bread - funny that the packaging is almost identical, that is how I got suckered into buying it in the first place. I have tried several types of Oroweat products, and it is like chewing on cardboard. Store brands are better than that garbage.
