Known colloquially as the Autry Western Museum or cowboy museum, the Los Angeles Autry Museum of Western Heritage is named after America's favorite singing cowboy: Orvon Gene Autry. A quintessential American icon, Gene Autry crafted a cowboy code that is a mix of the Ten Commandments and the Boy Scout code of conduct. He has five stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and it is only fitting that a Western museum carrying his art and collectibles would carry the Autry name as well.Where is the Autry Museum located?
The Los Angeles Autry Museum of Western Heritage is located at 4700 Western Heritage Way in Los Angeles, 90027.
When is the Autry Museum of Western Heritage open?
The museum is closed on Mondays, but it is open Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM. During the summer the hours of operation are extended on Thursdays until 8:00 PM. Like most museums, the Autry is closed on New Year's Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Black Friday, Christmas Day and the day after.
How much does it cost to visit Los Angeles' Autry Museum?
Children under three years of age are free to enter, those between three and 12 are asked to pay $3, while senior citizens above the age of 60 and students aged 13 through 18 pay $5. With a student ID those over 18 may also enter at the discounted $5 rate. All others pay $9 to get in.
Is there anything else around the Autry?
It is a little known fact that the Autry Museum is actually part of the Autry National Center which not only houses the aforementioned Museum of the American West but also the Southwest Museum of the American Indian which consists of galleries that are currently closed and a garden which is open. A few minutes away is the Los Angeles Zoo.
This would be perfect for my class!
