Since I've been dieting, I have been purchasing a lot of different frozen dinners and meals. I love it when the calories and fat grams are already counted out for me, this is so helpful, since I am counting my calories and exercising every day to lose weight, and it is working!I purchased the Hot Pockets Calzone because I love the smaller Hot Pockets meals, and the picture on the front looked so delicious! It shows a calzone cut in half, with cheese pepperoni, and sausage oozing out of it. The crust has Italian-Style Herbed Cheese baked into the crust - the picture sure makes this meal look too good to pass up!
Preparation is easy, especially if you have a microwave. The calzone pops into a crisping sleeve (just like the smaller Hot Pockets), and you bake it on high for 3 1/2 minutes on a paper plate. After it comes out of the oven, you are directed to let it cool for 2 minutes, because it will be hot. I advise you to heed this warning, because I didn't and I burned the roof of my mouth on the cheese! If you don't have a microwave, all is not lost. You can bake this in a regular oven or a toaster oven, but it will take much longer - 34 minutes, and you don't use the crisping sleeve.
The back of the box reads "Indulge in the authentic Italian taste of a restaurant classic, right at home! For an authentic calzone, don't go out, choose Hot Pockets brand". Now, I love Italian food, and there is a great Italian restaurant in our neighborhood where we love to dine, and there calzone is out of this world. I really take issue with the claims that the manufacturer, Nestle, make about this food product. It does not taste like a restaurant quality product, and in fact I was quite disappointed in the taste. When I purchased this, I read the calories on the back, but I didn't notice until I got home that the calories listes are for HALF of the calzone, which isn't enough for one person's lunch or dinner. I don't believe that this would serve two people as it states, at least not in my house.
