A large part of me really hates Bill Cosby. He's one of the most recognizable, endurable and well-respected men in the entire country. He's funnier than Dick Gregory and has an evener temper than Spike Lee. He has a better smile than Tavis Smiley's and a more naturally human eloquence than Cornel West. But Bill Cosby and I are at odds ideologically: the man uses self-reliance as an excuse to preach at my generation about what we're doing wrong without finding ways to support what we're doing right; and he does this at the behest of the NAACP and the rest of the Baby Boomers who think we need a good whupping more than a good system by which to better ourselves.

I'm all right with self-reliance; in fact, I find most of the Democratic party to be lost in an obnoxious white liberalism that tends to do little but breed contempt. And in temrs of my needing to "listen" to dr. Cosby, consider this: he was raised in an era in which communities were real and viable and strong. They were smaller, it's true; that might have been the reasonf or their strength. He was preaching at an audience of people without a community, surrounded by folks who never trust anyone. Dr. Cosby forgot that.

OH, and Democrats are not your friend, they are your foe. To be self reliant is what the Republicans preach which is a better theory for blacks if they want to make it. Not being victims all the time.

You should hail Bill Cosby because he went through things YOU read about. He is saying stop making excuses for failing, stop crying "racism" all the time when you are your own worst enemy. Stop having babies out of wedlock, and stop doing crimes against one another all the time. Thats what he is saying. LISTEN!
