Redondo Beach, the original home of the Beach Boys, is a freewheelin' Southern California city of 63,000 souls located in the South Bay area of Los Angeles County. Tucked between Manhattan Beach to the north and Hermosa Beach to the south, Redondo Beach has an unusual shape, he southern half hugging the Pacific Ocean and featuring a beautiful, whie sand beach. The other, northern half of the city lies catty corner to the beach half, which has an unusually shaped Municipal Pier.

Redondo Beach feaures a wide sand beach starts below the bluffs of Palos Verdes in the south and carries north to the Redondo Pier. A paved path, called The Strand runs from South Redondo north to Santa Monica. Thousands of people take to The Strand each day on foot, bicycle, skateboard, and rollerblade, to enjoy the sun and surf. The Redondo Beach King Harbor Marina and Pier complex can be accessed via The Srand.

Surfing, bodysurfing and beach Volleyball are two recreational activities Redondo Beach and the South Bay is known for. In December 2005, wave heights in the South Bay reached a record 15 to 20 feet.

After strapping your surfboard to your old woody, you can motor down to Redondo Beach, which is south of LAX. You can even get to Redondo Beach on the Los Angeles Metro, as the western terminus of the Green Line is in the northern par of the city. The Bluewater Grill Seafood Restaurant and Oyster Bar, which is located on the waterfront and features an ocean view and casual patio dining, specializes in mesquite-charbroiled seafood, chowders and pastas. It also features an oyster bar serving raw oysters and clams on the half shell. The menu, which is revised twice daily, features over 100 items, including as many as 20 varieties of fresh fish. Diners get all the warm sourdough bread and butter you can eat.
