Just when you thought when it was safe to read...Now you must endure more in my tumultuous saga that is Medicaid. Some of this may not be for virgin eyes, but I digress...

First a little history: In 2007, I started getting a pounding in my ear that wouldn't go away. I waited a bit, as sometimes these things are due to stress and anxiety. Just as I was going to call my ear nose and throat guy, Medicaid cut me off. Then I got it back. I called the HIP office to find out if I needed a referral. Of course they said no. Turns out I did need a referral-got the referral and started seeing my ear nose and throat doc. After several treatments didn't work, he decided to send me for a CT Scan of my sinuses. And this leaves us at our current problem...

First, to make the appointment for the CT Scan...I have to call for a referral. I can't just call the place and make an appointment...too convenient! So I was told this woman is going to call me with an authorization code. After two days of not getting any phone calls, I call the ear nose and throat guy's office to find out I now have to call my regular physician who should have an authorization code. I call her office and thus she sent it out or so she says...

So I show up in person at my physician's office and they direct me to referrals...The referrals lady says "A woman should've called you from the CT scan place. I sent this referral out yesterday." Obviously, they didn't get it. She faxed out the referral out in front of me and a woman from the CT scan place who works with only my physician's office called ,but it was not the CT scan place themselves (it's rather hard to explain). In fact they had no knowledge of what I was talking about when I called the front desk. Thus, I am fuming at this point. The referral lady gave me this woman's number. I called her... I made the appointment.

I had to cancel the first appointment because I was really sick. So I made another appointment. I go there. In two minutes I am in and out of the office. The aide there says that I will have the results in two days.

Absolutely insane! Whatever happened to medical people who cared! Give me an old country doc anytime!

I'm not on Medicare and I have had the same type of issues. It's the health care system - somebody some where kicked common sense to the curb.

I feel for you. It's not medicaid, it's the whole stupid system that's rotten. Only in this country do people need to ASK for their results or beg for an appointment. Anywhere else in the world that I know of (I've lived in 5 countries) you get your test results right away and you get to see a doctor within the same day. It doesn't take a genious to figure out that's the only way to treat someone with health problems!

It's beyond me how you guys still have a health system like this. Its horrifying! Especially because its from a nation the rest of the world looks up to so much. Here your results would be sent to YOU, not any other person (not even your doctor), you. They are your results after all.....

When I was younger the doctors took only cash. There was no medical plans. My doctor charged me three bucks a visit and a simple surgery was only thirty bucks. If the prices were the same you would have no problem.
