Financial incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy systems at residences in New Jersey include rebates for energy conversation measures and for energy efficient heating and cooling units and appliances, a sales tax exemption on materials and equipment for installing a wind or solar energy system, rebates on renewable energy systems, net metering, production incentives, and solar renewable energy certificates.

CoolAdvantage

New Jersey's CoolAdvantage program provides rebates for new energy-efficient central electric air conditioners and heat pumps. The rebates are from $100 to $150 depending on the unit's Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) in the case of central air conditioners, and the SEER, EER and Heating Season Performance Factor (HSPF) for heat pumps.

The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities offers a booklet called "Shop Smart, Stay Cool, Your Guide to Buying an Energy- Efficient Central Air Conditioner". This booklet can be downloaded from the New Jersey Clean Energy website at www.njcleanenergy.com under Residential - Programs - CoolAdvantage.

Customers of Atlantic City Electric, Jersey Central Power & Light, and Rockland Electric Company are eligible for this rebate. In addition to the efficiency rating, you will need to provide documentation that the unit has been properly installed. You can call 1-866-NJSMART to request a rebate application.

WarmAdvantage

Under New Jersey's WarmAdvantage program you can receive a rebate on a high efficiency natural gas home heating system or water heater. The rebates for an Energy Star furnace are from $300 to $400, depending on the Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating, and whether the furnace has an electronic commutated motor. Rebates on water heaters range from $50 to $300, also depending on the AFUE or energy factor.
