I've been living in Southeastern Connecticut for twelve years now. I've held a few jobs here and there but by far the best paying and most rewarding jobs were my IT jobs. There are several companies in the Southeastern Connecticut area that require IT personnel. However, to go along with that, there are also a lot of qualified candidates for the available jobs that are posted.

First lets take a look at the companies that are hiring in the area. Probably the three largest companies in the area are Pfizer, Electric Boat, and the United States Naval Submarine Base. Pfizer is the world's largest pharmaceutical company and their world headquarters is located right here in Groton and New London. Second on that list would be Electric Boat who has the contract to build the new Virginia class submarines. There is a major push to build two submarines a, year which equates to solid work for prospective job seekers. Next is the USN Submarine Base. They hire contractors to do a lot of their work.

Aside from the big three there are a wealth of colleges in the area that all have IT needs. University of Connecticut Avery Point, Connecticut College, Mitchell College, Three Rivers Community College, and the Coast Guard Academy are all viable candidates for IT positions. All of these colleges are within a 30-minute drive of each other.

But wait, there's more. Two of the world's largest casinos are in the area. Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun are literally twenty minutes from one another. They are both huge employers and searching for IT positions could lead you there.

The best way to get your foot in the door is to start out as a contractor. Sure you can visit the above-mentioned companies and apply there (I recommend that) but for better results you will have more luck with contracting.

When it comes to contracting companies there are literally dozens upon dozens that service this area. Your more than welcome to try whatever sites you want but the following list is tried and proven. Give it a shot and make sure your resume is top-notch.

  • Five of the best websites for job seekers in the Southeastern Connecticut area.
