You probably already know what has been in the news for weeks - times are tough and likely to get tougher for those looking for jobs. Many are growing desperate as they remain unemployed. On July 18, 2008, the unemployment rate in Ohio climbed to 6.6%, according to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, as reported in the Dayton Business Journal.

Ohio hasn't had an unemployment rate that high in the last 15 years - not until now. It is only one of many states where employee face this dilemma. When times get tough, that is when both workers and job hunters need to write the right resume - or tweak their old one - to make it as recession-proof as possible. Resume writing is more important than ever and people are blogging about it and trying to come up with more information on how to create successful ones.

This makes perfect sense because even though the right resumes might not guarantee that potential employees will land a dream job, they can sure help. I know. I've been there, tweaked my resume and found a job fairly quickly, even during the last major recession.

Want to land a job during a recession? Here is how to put the odds in your favor in a tight job market:

Resume writing tip:
remember that your employer may be going through tough times, especially in a recession. They may well be getting plenty of resumes from very qualified job seekers, all seeking to nail down the same job. That is when you don't want to make the mistake of writing a resume that simply lists past degrees and employers in basic resume form. To make yourself marketable, it helps to convince your potential employer that you are likely to help turn a profit for the company. Make your resume dynamic and engaging, enough to make an impression without going overboard.
