For weeks, those that pay attention to box office numbers were wondering if The Dark Knight box officewould break a few records. Thus far, The Dark Knight box office may be exceeding several big records. On the midnight screenings on early Friday morning, The Dark Knight box office numbers were a record setting $18.4 million dollars from the midnight shows. Now, as the first day of The Dark Knight ends, The Dark Knight box office may have set an opening day record as well.

Though no official numbers have been released, an early projection from the website Fantasy Moguls states that The Dark Knight box office for Friday may be up to $66 million dollars. A Warner Brothers executive also confirmed these numbers by saying The Dark Knight box office for Friday was $66.4 million dollars. If these reports are true, The Dark Knight box office for opening day would set an all time record, beating out the $59.84 million dollar gross of Spider Man 3's opening day.

The midnight screenings of The Dark Knight had already surpassed the record held by Revenge of the Sith in 2005, which made $16.9 million in their overnight screenings. Warner Brothers studios officially placed The Dark Knight overnight numbers at $18.4 million yesterday.

If The Dark Knight box office numbers of $66 million on Friday is true, with Saturday and Sunday still on the horizon, this would put The Dark Knight box office on pace to set the all time record for the most money made on opening weekend.

The record for biggest opening weekend is currently held by Spider Man 3 with $151 million. The Fantasy Moguls website projects that if these numbers keep up, The Dark Knight box office may go up to $157 million in the first weekend.
