When welcoming your new baby into the world, you want to provide a clean and healthy environment. In the last few years, we've learned that some of the chemicals used for cleaning and for other purposes can be harmful to the health - and even the mental development - of the precious new addition to your family. It is especially important to keep the nursery clean and as chemically free as possible, since your baby will initially spend most of the hours of his or her day sleeping in the nursery. Then, as your baby grows, he or she will begin exploring. You want your nursery to be as clean and friendly as possible, so that your baby will not be exposed to dangerous and toxic chemicals.Setting Up a Clean, Green Nursery
Part of having a clean and green nursery for your baby is setting it up in a manner that is chemical free and non-toxic. This means that any cleaning and painting should be done at least a month before the baby comes. And, while you are pregnant, you should not do much of the cleaning and painting yourself. Get friends and family to help you. Use special cleaning products that are environmentally friendly and come in recycled containers. Also, for the paint, use water-based organic paint. This paint is less harmful in general. However, it does need to be cured, just as regular paint does. Have the painting done at least four to six weeks in advance of the baby's birth, and cure it using a space heater.
Clean the flooring thoroughly using a green cleaner, such as products from www.PristinePlanet.com. or www.GoGreenBabyShop.com. This is not the time to put in new carpeting. If you do, make sure you get it in at least two months before the baby is born. Natural linoleum is a better choice than carpet, since it is easier to clean and has fewer allergens.
