Texas Holdem’ Poker is the most popular version of poker in the world today. If you turn on TV and see a group of people playing poker…they are most likely playing Texas Holdem’. Of course, these are either the pros or in some cases celebrities. But the secret is: Anybody can be a pro. I mean, ANYBODY! There is a growing number of people entering the World Series of Poker now a days, and everybody has the chance to claim the victory.

There are two basic, different types of Texas Holdem’: Limit and No-Limit! The difference is the betting structure. Limit Holdem’ has a set limit of the amount that you can bet in each round, and No-Limit is exactly what it says. You can go, “All-In” at any time, risking your entire chip stack into the pot. Limit Holdem’ takes a lot more discipline to master, because “most” people don’t know how to play it very well. (They are loose) This is the worse thing you can do when playing Limit Holdem’, is be loose (playing too many hands). You may win a few pots, but you will most likely lose in the long run. Basically, you have to “limit” the number of times you enter hands, MAJORLY, in order to make a profit, or you will just get trampled all over. No-Limit is the game that I am going to focus on the most in this article. It is the version that I enjoy the most, because it still takes discipline, but also a lot of psychological skills.

Texas Holdem’ is a game utilizing skill and luck, but most of all: It is not “all” about how you play your cards. It is essentially a people’s game. It is about learning people’s betting strategies, picking up on tells, and using these things to your advantage. It takes a lot of thinking and analyzing. A good poker player must contain the following: Math Skills, Discipline, Psychological Skills, and the concept of Risk vs. Reward. It is truly amazing how these fundamentals will improve your game drastically.

Takeaways
  • Texas Holdem' is not just a card game. It is a people's game.
  • Texas Holdem' takes Math Skills, Discipline, Psychological Skills.
  • A combination of skill and luck!
