All summer
the brave woman
slept among the horses.
I do not know
the customs of worship,
do not know
if the introverted habit
is their way,
or if she listened for
some gone astray cat-
not knowing even
that was what she did-
in the blowing
sounds in the dark.
I know that
trust is the hardest
love we bear.
she slept
with her long neck
folded, like a note
put away.
